Canon Medical Systems kits out Manchester United’s Aon Training Complex helping to minimise injury and keep players in action.

Keeping players playing is top of any sports club’s priority list, and none more so than Manchester United Football Club. Injury is disruptive to plans and frustrating for players, which is why having the best medical equipment for injury diagnosis and treatment that money can buy is an essential.

This is where Canon Medical Systems and Manchester United have joined forces to provide medical scanning equipment to ensure their elite players get elite care: monitoring healing of injuries, fine-tuning rehabilitation processes, and ensuring that speedy diagnosis and treatment underpins top-ranking performance, especially when careers, high profile championships, and multi-million pound investments are at stake.

It’s fantastic to have such state-of-the-art equipment at the training ground. I believe the club will be the first to use this equipment as it isn’t available anywhere else in the UK yet. Ryan Giggs, Assistant Manager

Club doctor Steve McNally discusses the value of his club’s partnership with Canon and the benefits of daily access to the company’s sophisticated equipment.

The Canon advantage
“Canon’s equipment,” declares McNally, “has really taken us to another level with advanced imaging that allows us to detect things that we might not have noticed before. Seeing the quality of the images that we can generate with the Canon equipment was exciting. It improved my diagnostic confidence in what we can do for our players.”

The equipment
“Our ultrasound scanner,” continues McNally “is like an extra pair of eyes. It gives me information that I didn’t get from standard clinical assessment alone. Our scanning with the MRI system provides even greater detail. We get high-resolution images throughout any section of the body in three different planes. The CT scanner, meanwhile, is invaluable in work like monitoring fracture healing and assessing bony and soft tissue problems.”

The partnership
McNally values the relationship with Canon Medical Systems as a platform for continuing advances in medical care. He characterizes Canon Medical Systems as a partner “that is innovative, that challenges itself, that wants to learn and exchange information.” “The partnership,” McNally explains, “has produced a unique environment where we can apply our thoughts creatively, see the results quickly, and put them to good use for the team and for the wider healthcare community.”

The Canon Medical Systems-Manchester United partnership aims to take sports medicine to the next level. The partnership will translate the sports medicine innovations and findings into benefits for wider patient populations in the development of new techniques and new treatment pathways.
